Gary Ciuci Blues Guitarist

Gary Ciuci,  Connecticut’s premier blues guitarist, has been a pivotal force on the New England music scene for over two decades. “The Gary C Blues Band” is an ever-changing entity whose core is a guitar, bass and drum trio which has been known to employ a second guitar, keyboards, a horn player or horn section as the situation warrants.

The years 1980 to 1984 saw Gary making his base of operations in Los Angeles, California where the west coast version of his band shared sidemen with such luminaries as Marvin Gaye, Tower of Power, Gary Moore, The Jacksons and others.

In the late ‘80’s Gary took a brief hiatus from band-leading to take the guitar chair as musical director with R&B legends “The Chambers Brothers” in New York City blues clubs, in front of festival audiences and at New York’s prestigious Lincoln Center. It was during this period that he shared the stage with such Rhythm and Blues notables as guitarist Cornell Dupree (Aretha Franklin; King Curtis), bassist Harvey Brooks (Miles Davis, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors) and others.

Freelance work since then has brought Gary to stages in major cities across the United States including Chicago, New York City, San Francisco, Atlantic City and New Orleans to name a few, and has found him moving in good company with, for example Chicago blues legend Phil Guy, whose place in the roster of such cornerstones of the Blues as Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf and Willie Dixon is common knowledge.

The list of stage experience with like talents is almost inexhaustible: Players in association with Johnny Winter, Bon Jovi, Wilson Pickett, Texas legend Freddie King, The young Rascals, Danny Gatton and Dickie Betts regularly share the spotlight with Gary in his numerous appearances. He has also been seen in New York City blues clubs performing with Tom “Pipes” McDonnell and “Blue” Lou Marini of Blues Brothers fame, as well as JSP recording artist Cookie McGee and Alligator recording artist Sonny Rhodes.

Gary’s first European tour occurred in 1994 when he signed on with the popular blues outfit “Sweet Daddy Cool Breeze” for a ten-week visit to Germany and France. {CLICK HERE TO READ REVIEW}  Subsequent European travels have brought his talents to bear for blues club and festival audiences in Spain, Holland and Switzerland as well. Gary is currently working on recording a compilation of his personal favorite blues and jazz standards for a CD proposed for American release later this year.
